GAMBIA ORGANISATION OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED (GOVI) FOR THE FIRST TIME HAS BLIND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

In order to change what it means to be blind, Gambia Organisation Of The Visually Impaired (GOVI) for the first time since 1971 up to the year 2018 voted positively in its Constitution to ensuring that, from now on, it is imperative that, it is always a visually impaired person who shall be an Executive Director to lead. This according to the visually impaired persons will always demonstrate confidence and high expectation for visually imprared persons to show that, indeed visually impairement does not mean inability and thus, is by no means a characteristic that defines them and their future.

In consequence of the foregoing unanimous decision by the members of Gambia Organisation Of The Visually Impaired (GOVI, voted MR. Lamin Colley, who is totally blind as an Executive Director of GOVI. When I interviewed Mr. Colley about how he feels assuming such a high office ever in GOVI, he responded that, such a position vested in him by the visually impaired is a remarkable success in his life and by estension will show the skeptists that, indeed visually impaired can live the life they want and can excel in enabling environment when given opportunity to do so.
