BLIND WOMAN NOMINATED AS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEMBER OF THE GAMBIA TO REPRESENT PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

In the history of The Gambia, this is the first time that, a woman is nominated by the president of The Gambia by virtue of a power vested in him by the 1997 Constityution of The Gambia. However, as for the position of nominated member for Persons With Disabilities, this is the second time for person ewith dsabilities to be at the parliament of the Gambia.

The evidence is a man called Captaine saine who during the regime of the Ex President Yahya Jammeh was nominated as Member of parliament. After the fall of his regime in the year 2016 when Gambians went to the pole to vote him out, a new regime came in to effect in the year 2017 led by President Adama Barrow who nominated Mrs. Ndey Yassin Secka as Member of Parliament. She is said to be representing the interests of Persons With Disabilities in The Gambia.
When I interviewed the said Ndey Yassin Secka about her take on assuming the said high office, she told me that she felt delighted to assume such portfolio and will do her best to represent Persons With Disabilities to the best of her ability.
